Growing

Memorial Day

The day started with a flag raising and a pancake breakfast.
Stories told from years past, this year we told tales of LaVor.
Taking flowers to the cemetery to honor those who have passed.
Lunch outside picnic style just because the weather permitted.
Yard work and house work and play.

The Life of Dundee

I said goodbye today to my friend and companion of several years.

You gave everything you had to be what I needed.

With heavy heart and a tear in my eye, we said goodbye.
I sat right there gently rubbing your ears, while I spoke to you softly, trying to hold back the tears.
One last hug and one last caress, you have no idea how much you'll be missed.
To look into your eyes this one last time, you have not the desire to rise.
It is so hard to see your pain, close your eyes now and go to sleep.
I sit and try to write the words, I want your heart to hear.
Hoping to find some comfort, in the hollow you have left.
I look out into the open field, where you once raced.
Knowing now that field is empty of the protection and security you placed.
So with heavy heart and tears in my eyes, just for now my friend I say goodbye.

Dundee showed me in his loving devotion what it really means to be utterly abandoned to the Master’s purposes. He taught me much about love and discipline. He taught trust and loyalty. In his simple ways he taught me of God’s love and how to become more loving, patient and kind.

Tribute to pet and Friend

Carmel was a good goat in life but on May 6th 2013, just after he turned a year old, coyotes jumped the fence of his pasture and stole all, leaving nothing but his stomach.
We had good times together, he even won a second place ribbon at the fair.
We had bad times together, nosing his way past me to the grain barrel. He was a patient little trickster who seemed to want to be an acrobat (or a stunt goat), jumping and flipping off stumps and me.
I remember how he would try and nibble my hair.
I remember the way he greeted me with two hooves on my legs begging for treats and a  good scratch.
Anyway, he was a good little Pygmy goat even though he hogged the food.
I will miss him. I hope he liked his life. ::(
