Goodbye Nemo

Nemo, the first born of Bridget's litter on January 20th at 8PM. Nemo was small and the runt. We worried, we helped her to compete against her two other siblings for a teat. Finally we came to the barn and found her with a full belly fighting on her own. We were glad to have saved the little underdog. We knew Nemo's life was not going to be the best, she seemed to have inherited her mothers blind eye, ( I didn't know you could pass on an injury) she also had a lucky ear (hence her name Nemo) she was also very quiet we had to listen very quietly to her bleat.

Nemo was not good for breeding or for a 4-H animal. We don't have room for animals that are not paying their way. When we arrived at the barn for the evening check we were saddened by the sight we saw. Nemo was laying all flat. Her mother had lain down by her kids and not heard little Nemo's cries.

We are comforted that the decision to kill Nemo was taken from us, for that would have been hard to do. Goodbye Nemo. Thank you for teaching us and ours about life and death and uncertainty

wow . . . what a heart-wrenching story. to me it is a story of beauty and hurt. you and yours are better people for learning things as death in ways that can be handled . . . my heart hurts for you though.

I hear the siblings and mama had a tough time with it too. Poor things.
